I am a mother of six, five of whom attend The Leys. I chaired the PTA for two years and played a part in establishing it in the 18 months prior to this. I currently volunteer on the maternity ward at the local hospital and have been doing this for the past five years. In my spare time I enjoy exploring all manner of places with my young family, caves and mines are a big favourite! I also enjoy learning and can always be found training or completing courses of some variety.
I believe the education children receive at primary level sets the foundations for the rest of their lives and that all children have the right to an outstanding education.

I am an experienced teacher who has taught in every year group, in a range of schools, both in New Zealand and the U.K. The majority of my career has been spent in London. I love learning myself; I have a Masters’ Degree in Education, and I have plans to study a Doctorate in Education one day! In the meantime it has been a real privilege to lead the Leys School to such success in a short space of time, and my enthusiasm has not waned. In my spare time (spare time?) I have a wonderful family to keep me entertained, and I have been very grateful for their support given the long hours and late meetings!

I have been a School Governor at The Leys for over 5 years now. My family lives in Ripon Road, my wife is a Teaching Assistant at the school and all three of my daughters were pupils there, from nursery to Year 6 and I am very proud of their schooling and results.
I have a strong belief that Early Years and Primary School are
where the children develop their learning ethos for the rest of their lives. If we can help to give them a good start in life then that will usually continue through to adulthood and beyond. I work locally in the advanced electronics industry which gives me a passion for ICT, science and mathematics in particular. I regularly travel overseas for work and coupled with my interest in robots, provide some interesting shows and presentations for the children.

Hello I am Mrs Oakley. I am a co-opted governor, I have two children at the school one in KS1 and one in KS2 - my children love the school. I am a MSA at lunchtime and also on the bank staff as a TA. I really enjoy what I do at the school. I’m also an active member of the PTA and have been since it started. In my spare time I run a baby and toddler group; it’s hard work but it’s very rewarding. I like to help out whenever possible.

My name is Joy Jackson and I was born in Glasgow, Scotland. I moved to Stevenage for my secondary education at Barnwell School. My first voluntary work experience was at the age of 15 while I was still at school. I started helping in my daughter’s classroom in 1982 when the school was called ‘Wellfield Wood’ before the name changed to ‘The Leys’. I then became a Governor at the school in 1991, 24 years ago !
I am a very active member of the local community where I attend local meetings of interest and I have sat in the “Stranger’s Gallery” at full council meetings at Stevenage Borough Council each month. I perform many other voluntary roles today too including Honoury Treasurer of Age Concern Stevenage’ and Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator in my area. I also managed a local community centre for 17 years. I was awarded the ‘Pride In Stevenage’ award in 2013 for caring.
It is a pleasure to serve The Leys in whatever way I can to make sure it remains a happy and safe environment for our future generations.
