The Friends of the Leys Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has been established for a number of years. During this time we have successfully organised a number of events in order to raise funds for the school. This has included Discos, cake sales, movie nights, a magic show for the Nursery Children and a Christmas raffle. We have also organised Summer Fairs which have proved to be an excellent event for the whole school and their families to enjoy.
The money raised over the past 12 months has gone towards buying high visibility jackets for the school to be used during school trips, Easter eggs for the school Easter egg hunt and Christmas presents for the whole school when Father Christmas came to visit. The Friends of the Leys also made a contribution towards the school ‘Science Week’ which was very popular.
The Friends of the Leys relies on parents and teachers to volunteer their time to help with events. We meet on a regular basis both during and after school time and recently held our Annual General meeting in November 2015.
The following people were voted in:
Chair person – Sarah Robinson
Vice Chair – Deb Oakley
Secretary – Alex Duhumel
Treasurer – Ann-Marie Fonseca & Julia Bullen
Our PTA depends on a continual cycle of parental involvement. The teachers and head support us when possible but we also need your support. The parents that work together for the benefits of The Leys Primary and Nursery school are a mixture of full time parents and carers and some who work full and part time. None of us are specialists in fundraising!
Here are 10 reasons why helping the PTA will greatly improve your child’s experience of school:
1. You are vital to the success of the school
Schools are becoming more and more dependent on their PTAs for funds; without the funds your child would not get the benefit of ‘science week’ last year.
2. It's totally flexible
There are a variety of small ways you can help and be involved from designing a poster, photocopying and distributing letters, helping at an event…..so many ways. You don’t have to attend meetings, you can use our contact details to send in ideas for discussion or volunteer to help.
3. You'll feel more connected
You will get to know teachers and support staff and there is no better way to have your say or make suggestions than by offering your help and support.
4. You'll be part of a great network
Every PTA event is an opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation as you – all who share a common goal of helping raise funds for the school.
5. Make a difference
By volunteering to help the PTA you’ll be able to use whatever skills you have for a good cause.
6. We're not just about mums!
It’s important to our PTA and our school that dads are represented. Are you a dad with a skill that would come in useful?
7. Be a role model
By getting involved you children will see you playing an active part in making their education more varied and shows good team work and community spirit.
8. What the PTA does affects every parent and pupil
Your voice matters and the PTA is made up of people elected to represent you, so help us to do this effectively.
9. It's fun
Help plan fun events, socials and get togethers. Suggest new fun ways to raise funds and get the whole family involved.
Our children are only at the school for a relatively short time. PTA events such as a visit from Father Christmas will be remembered fondly by our children for a lifetime. The equipment and resources the PTA helps fund, make learning even more engaging and help us to continue to create lasting memories for our children.
